| Company History:
GAP Genetics was established in 1998, and
was an affiliate of Elite
Swine, which is now Maple Leaf Agri-Farms, which is a division of
Maple Leaf Foods.
GAP Genetics has a
solid track record, state of the art genetic development programs, and first class
research facilities. GAP Genetics produces and develops sound, profitable pig genetic
programs and breeding systems for commercial hog production.
The GAP Genetics program
is based upon the development of an uncompromised sound, durable high performance
production female for todays commercial hog production systems. Genetic development
centers around the world class genetic base of nucleus animals which are continuously
subjected to a stringent maternal genetic development program. Heavy selection emphasis is
placed upon key economic traits: pigs born alive and litter weaned weight.
The GAP Genetics nucleus herds are comprised of the GAP Genetics
purebred Large White
and GAP Genetics purebred Landrace breeds, and it is from these herds that genetic
improvement and progress is made and transferred into commercial hog breeding systems.
GAP Genetics has developed the Biosecure Maternal System (BMS) to address the
ongoing health challenges facing the industry. Our GAP Genetics-BMS program provides the
hog production unit with a progressive, economic breeding system to produce
GAP Geneticss
superior line of breeding pigs, the English Belle, the English Hybrid, and
the Northern Hybrid.
GAP Genetics has also implemented the GAP Genetics Advanced Genetic Management Program
to make the right breeding and genetic decisions on-farm, on-time, that add value and
profit to your hog operation.
GAP Genetics uses its own Advanced Gene Transfer Center to
facilitate the collection, evaluation, and dissemination of the superior genetic lines of
pigs for commercial breeding systems and customers throughout North America.
GAP Genetics uses the most innovative and technologically advanced techniques and
processes to ensure the optimum genetic improvement of its pig genetics, including state
of the art research barns, artificial insemination, real time ultrasound, marker assisted
selection and BLUP statistical analysis (Best Linear Unbiased Prediction), and full
carcass and meat quality evaluations. |
